Manager’s New Yr’s Resolutions 2014
compiled by Peter/CXO Wiz4biz 01/14
1 Simplifying your Supervisor’s Life. Instead of just bringing the Problem, bring a proposed Solution to the problem. Short, simple, but concise, would be nice. Ask any questions, so you fully understand the problem. Answer any questions and consider the consequences of your original or modified solution.
2. Running a Meeting better. Don’t have one unless there’s no other way. Consider all alternatives. Now, 1) Determine the Purpose & Objective. 2) Set an Agenda, 3) Have your Team do the Research ahead of time, to be able to provide the info at the meeting, 4) openly discuss “all” the issues, consider the consequences of each alternative, 5) draw up an Action List, 6) Write up short meeting Notes, 7) Distribute to all “affected parties”, 8)Follow up on Action Item to assure progress – add resources, modify, as necessary.
3. Shortening your Meetings, by: 1) inviting the fewest people possible – that will be affected by the issues, 2) Starting on time, 3) sticking to the Agenda, 4) steering people back on Track, when they are drifting off the subject, 5) if a decision can’t be made, assign someone to do further investigation 6) End on time, 7) think of ways you can make Communications or Meetings better in future.
4. Negotiating better. 1) learn all the Facts about the situation, 2) what do you “really” want? 3) what don’t you care about? 4) what does the other party really want? 5) what’s your absolute Limit? 6) give a little & ask them to do the same, 7) continue negotiating further, till you arrive at a Win-Win compromise you both can live with. 8) Agree, then document the agreement – as a confirm-ation + defining the terms – so you both fully understand the terms & conditions.
5. Better Elevator Speech. Opportunities happen all the time. Prepare & practice – to be ready to take advantage of them. A 90 second speech, when someone asks: “What do you do? Then you can answer with your short “L” speech. You never know when it’s that Golden Opportunity that will make a big difference in your life. Be Ready !!!
6. Better Voice Mail, to communicate, get what you want. Identify yourself clearly [Name & Organization], so the receiver immediately knows who you are and gets in the right frame of mind. Mention why you called and be as specific as you need to be – without being too long. Ask for exactly what you want. Offer a couple of options – if you can. Let them know you’re somewhat flexible – if you are. If your name is difficult, spell it out for them.
7. Realizing Resolutions. Give these new or improved Resolutions about 30 days to see how they work. They’ll become Good Habits & G/Hab will get you more of what you & others want.
